Eleven mango farmers in the Krobo area are to benefit from GH˘500,000 from the Millennium Challenge Accounts (MCA).

Another batch of 200 pepper growers are currently undergoing training after which they would be supported with GH˘7,000 each to expand their farms under the MCA project.

Mr. Sampson Kweku Boafo, Minister of Chieftaincy and Culture, disclosed this at the durbar of Chiefs and people of Yilo Krobo to climax the celebration of this year’s Kloyosikplemi festival at Klowem at the base of the Krobo Mountains on Friday.

He said the government had initiated moves to release back to traditional authorities all the various lands, which the State acquired but were not in use and gave the assurance that the Krobo Mountains, acquired in the colonial era by the state would be released to the Krobos.

Mr Boafo said government had done a lot to help improve upon the telecommunication facilities in the country for good television reception and assured the people of the Yilo Krobo area that soon, their television reception could also improve.

He congratulated Nene Narh Dawutey Ologo VI, Konor of Yilo Krobo, for his re-election as the President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs.

Earlier, Nene Ologo called on the Electoral Commission and the various political parties to ensure that this year’s election is conducted in a free and fair environment.

He appealed to the government to release the Krobo Mountains, which is the ancestral home of the Krobos to the two Krobo traditional areas to enable them to develop it into a major tourist facility.

Nene Ologo appealed to the government to expand the Somanya-Kpong road into a dual carriage way and also to improve upon telephone and television reception in the Krobo area.

He called for the provision of a District Hospital to the people of Yilo Krobo District and pledged his readiness to provide land for the construction of the project.
