The Value Added Tax (VAT) Service has retrieved over GH¢750,000 so far from defaulting businesses in a nationwide distress action.
The on-going exercise, which started in January this year, involves the closure of delinquent institutions who have been served with final demand notices to pay outstanding debt.
VAT officials expect business establishments to voluntarily honour their tax obligation to avoid confrontations with tax agents.
Luv FM’s Kofi Adu Domfeh however reports some informal sector players in Kumasi are not enthused with the mode of operations in tax collection.
The special VAT task force has been in Kumasi over the last one week targeting 12 business establishments in the metropolis.
According to the service over ¢9,500 has been retrieved so far from defaulting businesses in the past three days.
Some of the affected businesses have raised issues with what they said has been the services’ poor handling of the programme.
But supervisor of the VAT enforcement team, Mr Henry Sam, said task officials follow due diligence in the collection of revenue.
