The Ghana Education Service, the Kwahu East District Assembly and the authorities of Nkwatia Senior High School (NKWASCO) have suspended 400 third year students of the school following a demonstration against the school authorities for not allowing them to wear trousers or skirt and blouse to classes.

They are to return within two weeks with their parents to sign a bond to be of good behaviour before being readmitted.

Speaking to the GNA, the headmaster of the school, Mr Daniel Afari said the students’ leaders made a verbal appeal to the school authorities to allow the form three boys wear khaki trousers and the girls to wear skirt and blouse to classes since they are seniors.

He said the school authorities decided to meet the Students Representative Council for a discussion and then engage tailors and seamstresses to sow it for them for the dresses to be uniform.

However, Mr Afari said in the early hours of Monday, October 5, the ring leaders of the demonstration locked up the second year boys in their dormitories for about two hours, which prevented them from attending classes.

He said when the police were invited the third year students threw urine stored in sachet water rubber packets on them and later opened the gate and escaped into a nearby bush but the police managed to arrest and detained three of the ring leaders who are assisting the police in their investigations.

When the Mpraeso District Police Commander, DSP Samuel Okunor, was contacted he confirmed the story and said when the police conducted a search at the boys’ dormitory, a G3 live ammunition was found under the bed of one of the students.

This is the second Senior High School to be closed down in the Kwahu area within a week for demonstrating.

Students of the Kwahu Ridge Senior High School at Obo embarked on a demonstration last weekend, which led to an indefinite closure of the school.
