The officer in charge of government scholarship, Mr Likpalimor Tawiah has assured students waiting to process their documents that government is determined to address the issue immediately.

He said the delay in the processing of the scholarship was because government did not want a repeat of last year’s situation where students on scholarship in some countries got stranded.

Some students in universities in the country as part of their courses of study undertake a certain period of overseas studies.

But they have since the beginning of the academic year been in limbo because the scholarship secretariat refused to issue processing documents to them arguing money has not been released.

The affected students have expressed worry over the matter and one of them who spoke to Joy FM’s Super Morning Show host, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, said they were worried because the institutions where they were supposed to go to, had indicated their readiness to take students from other countries.

But Mr Tawiah said there was no course for alarm.

According to him, all the necessary documents had been sent to the Minister of Finance who signed to approve disbursement of money to the scholarship secretariat to facilitate the process.

He is confident by the close of the week some positive information will be heard by the affected students.

He stated he had not been told about the predicament of the students, but added government was aware that every year students go for a period of studies abroad and so was working on it.
