Some political parties in the country are asking for clearly defined terms of reference from government before participating in n all-party education conference.

The vice-president John Mahama over the weekend announced that government would convene an all-party conference to evolve a consensual roadmap for the education system.

Mr Mahama believes this will end the erratic changes in educational policies with changes in governments.

But some political parties say they would not participate in the conference without a clearly defined terms of reference that their views would be duly considered.

General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party, Ivor Greenstreet, reacting to the suggestion said “the important thing is that what is discussed and decided upon is acted upon.”

“And this is where we would want such assurances in advance to know whether the occasion is just a talk shop or whether [it will] come to some sort of agreement …which will be implemented down the line.”

There has not been an official reaction from the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) but sources close to the top hierarchy say the NPP could welcome the suggestion.

Special Aide to John Mahama in an interview with Joy News on Monday said though the vice president’s view was personal, government will consider the views of all political parties presented at the proposed conference.

“Government will not hesitate in ensuring that knowledge that abounds is gathered.”
