The Public Accounts Committee of Parliament has recovered 40 million Ghana cedis, misapplied by public servants.

Mr. Sillas Mensah, chairman of the Committee made this known at a rally, organised by the Adeiso Zongo Ward of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), at Adeiso.

The committee chairman, who is also Member of Parliament (MP) for Upper West Akyem, expressed concern about the high rate of corruption in the country.

He blamed government for not ensuring that measures put in place to check corruption, such as the procurement Act, worked effectively.

Mr Mensah said Ghana’s domestic debt which stood at 47 trillion cedis from Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s administration up to end of reign of the NDC had risen to 91 trillion cedis within the eight years of NPP rule.

He said that even though the NPP Government received much donor support and debt relief than any other government, it had the worst record in managing the economy.

Mr Mensah introduced Mr Joseph Sam Amankwanor, NDC parliamentary candidate for the constituency to the gathering.

Mr Amankwanor criticised the NPP government for neglecting the constituency in the execution of development projects.

He said the only senior high school in the area was built by the NDC government and appealed to the electorate to vote massively for the party.
