With just three days left for campaigning to end, the flag-bearers of the two main political parties in the country have adopted new strategies to whip up support for their bids.

Both the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) are steering clear of the normal rally and platform campaigning and rather driving through the principal streets of the capital to appeal for votes.

The NPP’s Nana Akufo-Addo is said to be making whistle-stops in different constituencies around the capital; driving through some commercial centres like the Agbogbloshie, Makola and the Kantamanto markets.

Joy News’ Benard Saibu reported that the ruling party’s latest strategy could best be described as “sunroof campaigning” - the flag-bearer, with the aid of a megaphone, addresses pedestrians, hawkers and by-standers through the sunroof of his car as the convoy drives on.

But with the need to boost its support base among the Zongo people, the NPP is said to be intensifying its campaign efforts in the various Moslem communities around the country.

Meanwhile, the communications director of the NDC, Koku Anyidoho, says campaigning is not over although the party has been able to garner enough support for a win in the polls.

Describing the party’s last minute campaigning as “message reinforcement,” Mr Anyidoho said the NDC is “continuously reminding the people that on 7 December they have to just get out in their numbers and use their thumbs to change the... direction of the nation.

The People’s National Convention is however concentrating on the three northern regions. The presidential candidate of the PNC, Dr Edward Mahama, said he would focus on the north because he stands a better chance of winning more votes there.

The medical doctor and four time presidential aspirant of the coconut-branded fraternity said the PNC is set to win massively on December 7, adding, “the people have now realised why they need to support the PNC.”

Dr Mahama said the PNC has been touring the three regions to ensure that the party can fortify its support base there.

“The three northern regions are the base of the PNC,” he stressed.

The presidential candidate of the CPP, continues to concentrate his energy on the Western and Central Regions with his “yere sasa mu” campaign refrain.

On Tuesday the flag-bearer of the party, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, pitched camps at five communities to meet with fishermen and farmers to mop up votes for the party.

He said the CPP is the best alternative to the two leading parties, the NPP and the NDC, but added that the election is a straight fight between the main opposition NDC and the CPP.
