The Electoral Commission, (EC) has assured electorates there will be no armed security personnel at polling stations on December 7.

The police had previously warned they would deal ruthlessly with any miscreant who tried to cause confusion on polling day. Indeed they warned they would take necessary measures, including shooting suspects to maintain law and order.

With some four days to go for the upcoming polls, many voters have expressed fears of what might be on December 7, when Ghana elects a president and 230 parliamentarians.

The Acting Public Affairs Director of the EC, Christian Owusu Pare, indicated on Joy FM’s Election Headquarters programme Wednesday afternoon that the polling stations will be free of armed guards.

“The security agencies have assured us that they are not taking armed policemen to the polling station. There will be policemen on guard alright , but they will not be armed,” he explained.

On the readiness of the EC to conduct a free, fair and transparent election on Sunday, Mr. Pare assured electorates there will be no shortage of election materials as happened in previous elections.

He indicated that electorates who have lost their voter ID cards but can remember their ID numbers will be allowed to vote, if the personality and the number correspond with the picture and details on the register.

He advised voters to wipe their thumb thoroughly with rags which will be provided to prevent inadvertent multiple thumb prints on the paper.

“When that happens we are unable to tell the true intention of the voter”

He cautioned, ballots with no validating stamps behind will be rejected.
