US rap star Kanye West has been arrested on suspicion of vandalism after a row with a photographer at Los Angeles International Airport.

The incident happened before he cleared security screening at the airport before boarding a flight to Hawaii.

The rapper and his bodyguard were later released on bail, while prosecutors are still considering whether to press charges against the two men.

The musician's bodyguard could face an additional charge of assault.

A camera valued at $10,000 (£5,709) was broken in the incident, according to an airport spokesman.

Marshall Lowe added that witnesses were interviewed by police at the airport while Mr West and his bodyguard were taken to a nearby Los Angeles police station for questioning.

He declined to speak to reporters when he was later released on Thursday afternoon.

Mr West had been due to board an early morning American Airlines flight to Honolulu when the incident took place.

Footage was made public by US celebrity website TMZ.com.

Earlier this week, he performed his new single, Love Lockdown, at the MTV Music Video Awards in Los Angeles.

It came a year after complaining about failing to win a single prize at the event and vowing that he would never return to MTV.

He has also been nominated for best international act at the UK's Mobo awards.
