Ghanaian highlife musician Akwasi Opoku popularly known in music as Kwasi Pee has disclosed in an interview with Myjoyonline.com that all is set for the release of his fourth album ‘Kumipreko’ which he says is a step ahead of what he has done so far.

The 12 track album features artistes like Okyeame Kwame, K.K. Fosu, Squilla (Jamaican) and others. Already, four tracks from the album; ‘Emereka bone’, ‘Asew’, ‘Kakabo’ and ‘Kumipreko’ are enjoying airplay across the country.

Kwasi Pee said he hope to launch the album in a mega style at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Accra on November 21.

Asked why he chose such a venue for the album launch, He said, “I love to do my stuffs in a classy way.”

The highlife star, has four albums to his credit; ‘Krokro me’, ‘Akonor yaa’, ‘Nyane me’, and the current one ‘Kumipreko’.

He said he draws his music inspiration from daily life and other things like relationships etc.

Kwasi Pee is the son of legendary Ghanaian musician Agyaaku. He started doing music about 16 years ago in Ghana but he spent most of his time in the United Kingdom where he firmed up his music career internationally.

One may wonder why Kwasi Pee who has a strong presence in the music scene in the UK will come down to a less profitable industry to do music.

He attributed his relocation to the fact that he is a Ghanaian and he was also born here, “Ghana is my home, this where I was born. In the UK, you have to speak their language before they can fully accept you. If you don’t speak and play like the way they do, you are out of the game. My music only sells well within the Ghanaian communities across Europe.”

The most challenging aspect of doing music in Ghana he says is piracy.

He said Ghanaians do not patronise Ghanaian music. They only pirate the music than buying it while in Europe, although they do pirate, they still buy music and appreciate the musicians.

“If you love any artistes or any musician, what you do is to support them and buy their music instead of coping or pirating. [Buying their music] will make them feel that what they are doing is great. The musicians will have money and they will not go hungry,” he advised.

Akwasi Opoku who is into music full time says although the Ghanaian music scene is challenging when it comes to making money, his type of music is not ‘noisy’ like the others out there and therefore he makes sales.
