Former Jamaican Prime Minister Percival Noel James Patterson has called for increased economic cooperation between his country and Ghana.

Mr. Patterson who is in Ghana to attend a regional roundtable meeting on the political dimensions of the World Economic crises organized by Club de Madrid, Africa Progress Panel, African Development Bank and Casa África, made the call during a courtesy call on former President Rawlings at his Ridge residence on Monday.

In a statement issued after the meeting, former President Rawlings said he and his counterpart discussed increased South-South cooperation and called for the re-establishment of serious economic ties with Ghana.

Patterson, who led Jamaica from 1992 to 2006 and is credited for transforming his country’s economy and educational systems, also called for increased cooperation on tourism as Jamaica has great experience in that area.

Former President Rawlings said he took the opportunity to brief Mr. Patterson on the socio-political situation in the country.

The regional roundtable discussion being attended by Mr. Patterson will address the political dimensions of the world economic crisis from an African point of view and formulate some recommendations to face the political challenges arisen from the crisis.
