The Most Reverend Thomas Mensah, Archbishop of Kumasi Archdiocese, has called on churches in the country to complement the government's role in the provision of developmental projects.

Speaking on Monday at a forum organized by the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM), a developmental organization of the Catholic Church, he said the Catholic Church had come to know that development could only be attained if there was peace in the country.

"The Catholic Church has embarked on a lot of developmental projects in
the country because we believe that the new name for peace especially in Africa is development,” he added.

He noted that the Church was engaged in a lot of development projects in the areas of good healthcare, agriculture and education and all these were to complement the effort of the government.

"The Church is not in competition with the state but rather playing a complementary role and we urge you all to be patriotic in order to move this country forward."

Delegates from Uganda, Zambia and Congo Brazzaville made presentations on good governance and accountability in their various countries.

The debate was attended by civil society organizations, faith-based organizations, international donors and non-governmental organizations across the globe.
