Waste management companies operating in the Kumasi metropolis have given the Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) up to tomorrow November 28 to pay them for services rendered or they will advise themselves.

According to the companies, the ultimatum follows KMA’s persistent failure to pay them for the past one-and-half years and their inability to raise more loans to finance their operations.

In a statement issued in Kumasi yesterday, the companies said that they were so heavily indebted to the banks, commercial establishments and individual suppliers that “no one now wants to do business with us.’

It said in line with a provisional waste management contract agreement, payment of subsidies was to be made after a six month service probation period but that had not been done.

Again, it said, a formal contract agreement that should have been signed between them and KMA after the six month probation period was yet to be signed.

The companies also alleged that though the Metropolitan Chief Executive on August 28, directed that some payments be made to them to ease their financial problems nothing had been paid to date.

“In view of the above enumerated problems confronting us, we wish to advise that if we do not get a positive feedback from KMA by November 28, we will collectively advise ourselves,” the statement warned.
