Mr Kwabena Agyemang-Badu, Director of Education in-charge of Nkoranza North and South Districts has cautioned heads of basic schools in the districts against the collection of fees from students.

He said the practice undermined the essence of the capitation grant programme.

Speaking to the GNA at Nkoranza on Thursday, Mr Agyeman-Badu said the Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) had notified directors of education of the collection of such illegal fees but the heads had paid no heed to the directive to stop the practice.

“The practice is a great sabotage to the intention of the government to promote quality education in basic schools,” he said.

Mr Agyemang-Badu warned that any head who would condone with any Parent Teacher Association, School Management Committee or Conference of Heads of Basic Schools to levy or collect fees contravened the Director General’s directive.

He noted that such illegal fees were collected for mock examinations, terminal examinations or for extra classes which was not allowed.

The District Director said the district directorate had purchased a Risograph for the printing and urged school heads in the two districts to take advantage of it during the conduct of examinations in their schools.
