A 46-year-old businessman who allegedly defiled a 15-year-old girl was on Wednesday remanded into prison custody by a circuit court in Accra.

Adams Mahama, who has been charged with defilement, has pleaded not guilty. He will reappear on January 14.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Lawrence Gbele told the court presided over Mr C. A. Wilson that the victim, who is now pregnant, left home in anger when her parents reprimanded her.

The prosecution said while the victim was loitering around, she came into contact with the accused, who invited her to his house where she narrated her story to him and accommodated her.

The prosecution said the accused took advantage of victim’s desperate situation and started having sex with her.

However, a misunderstanding ensued between them and the victim decided to go to the church where she and her parents worshipped.

On November 30, the victim met the parents at the church and narrated her ordeal to them.

The victim’s father reported the matter at the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service and Mahama was arrested.
