Ms. Charlotte Baah, President of the Methodist Women Desk, Breman Asikuma Circuit has urged parents to give their children the necessary education that would make them good future citizens in their communities and the nation.

She said the only property parents could bequeath to their children is education and asked parents to stop spending their monies on unnecessary things but rather invest in their children’s education.

Ms. Baah said this at a day’s forum held at Breman Asikuma on proper care of the child.

It was organised by Breman Asikuma Circuit of the Methodist Women Group and attended by parents and children of the area.

Ms Baah emphasized the need for parents to train their children to be God fearing and show them the way to Christ during their infancy for them to become usefull adults.

Mr Jacob Asiedu, Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa (AOB) District Social Welfare Officer, speaking on “streetism; causes and effect,” said streetism has become one of the major social problems facing humanity all over the world

He said in Ghana an estimated number of 1,031 children are engaged in various economic activities either on the street or elsewhere, adding that, in AOB district, there were about 72 children on the street.

According to Mr Asiedu, some children, especially the girls also migrated to the cities in search for greener pastures but ended up on the street as thugs and prostitutes.

He, in this regard urged churches and traditional authorities to come together to wage war against this social menace.

Ms Theresa Yeboah, a Senior Nursing Officer at Our Lady of Grace Hospital in Breman Asikuma, in her presentation on “Causes and effects of Adolescent Pregnancy, its effects on Society” appealed to parents to regularly interact with their children on the
dangers of pre-marital sex.

She entreated parents to ensure that their children put on descent dresses to avoid being raped.

Mr. Antwi Boasiako, AOB district Co-coordinating Director urged the children to obey and respect the elderly and also concentrate on their books so as to
pass their examinations.
