The Interior Ministry has deployed senior police officers and bullet proof pick-ups to Bawku following renewed violence in the area Sunday.
Sector Minister, Cletus Avoka told Joy News his outfit has also provided the personnel with bullet proof vests to enable them check the escalation of violence.
The streets of Bawku in the Upper East Region have been deserted following hours of gun battle which started late Sunday.
The renewed violence was allegedly triggered when gun men opened fire on a group of mourners.
The DCE of the area Musah Abdulai speaking from his room as the treets were too dangerous to dare out, said “the situation is not the best.”
Joy News correspondent Joseph Osei who is travelling with the Regional Minister on Monday also reports the situation may get out of hand.
Reporting from the amoured vehicle that took the minister round the streets of Bawku, Osei said while the streets were empty, blazing gun shots could be heard in the neighbourhoods and suburbs.
No casualty has yet been reported or any arrests made.
Some residents according to Osei are recommending that a state of emergency be declared to douse the burning rage before things get out of hand.
It is not too clear who the feuding factions are in this renewed violence but the town has been plagued by ignominious ethnic clashes between the Kusasis and the Mamprusis.
