Executives of the Ghana Federation of the Disabled have dismissed corruption allegations leveled against them by some physically challenged persons.

Spokesperson of the accusers Bernard Oduro Takyi told Joy News the executives have failed to account for grants provided by government as well as donor inflows to assist needy members of the Federation.

According to him, majority of the executives are not physically challenged in anyway and has called for a probe into the accounts and activities of the Federation.

But in a reaction to Joy News Ofori Debrah, one of the executives told Joy News the allegations are unfounded and orchestrated by some members of the disability council.

He said Bernard Takyi and his ilk does not belong to any of the disability organizations and have no right to question their modus operandi, more so when they have no idea how the Federation operates.

He said the Federation presents a detailed financial report to their donor partners which makes it possible for them to receive financial support.

“If we mismanage our funds, why will they continue to support us,” he quizzed. Ofori Debrah dismissed the claim that all the executives are not disabled.

He said the efforts of the Federation culminated into the passing of the disability law and the setting up of the disability council and would not be the same institution to indulge in any act that will hinder the activities of disabled persons.

He threw a salvo at the disability council, accusing them of instigating these unfounded allegations against them.

As if that is not enough, Ofori Debrah claimed the council has denied physically challenged persons in the districts their share of the common fund.

He alleged his outfit has intercepted a document in which the council has tasked regional council members to collect part of the common fund for onward transmission to the National Council.

He said he has made copies of the document available to the Ministry of Social Welfare for investigations to begin.

Meanwhile a council member, Victor Larbi said his outfit is unaware of any such document and challenged Ofori Debrah to make that available for the council.
