President John Atta Mills has on behalf of the government and people of Ghana, sent a message of peace and well wishes to the Muslim Community in Ghana.
He has also urged Ghanaians to join our Muslim brothers and sisters in commemorating the day, bearing in mind the significance of the Eid al-Adha festival.
“The festival of sacrifice, as we know, is celebrated to remember the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God, and as Ghanaians, I wish to urge us all to take a cue and sacrifice the little that we can towards the attainment of our goals as a country” a statement signed by the Minister for Information quoted President Mills as saying.
Eid al-Adha is the second of two Eid festivals celebrated by Muslims across the world and usually takes place a day after the pilgrims conducting the annual pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia descend from Mount Arafat.
According to the statement, this year’s celebration is taking place in an atmosphere of extreme orderliness in the manner Ghana’s contingent to the Hajj was organized.
The President is however saddened about reports that two Ghanaians have been confirmed dead in Mecca.
Later this morning, Vice President John Dramani Mahama would join the National Chief Imam and the Muslim Community at the Independence Square for Muslim prayers.
