The Oguaa township was last Saturday thrown into a state of frenzy when the flag-bearer of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, accompanied by a large number of party members, led a procession through some of the principal streets of the town.

The forty-five minutes procession, which started from Chapel Square through Kotokoraba and ended at Mfantsepim Junction, enabled Dr Nduom to greet and show his solidarity to the people of Oguaa in their celebration of this year’s Fetu Afahye. And not even the scorching nature of the sun was enough to deter the presidential hopeful of the CPP from receiving cheers from the inhabitants of Cape Coast.

The thick crowd that followed the CPP flag-bearer, amidst singing and chanting of the Edwumawura slogan created both human and vehicular traffic, leaving some of the drivers with no option than to toot their car horns in a show of support for the party.

Many of the townsfolk who were enormously overwhelmed by the Yeresasamu slogan could not hide their joy but to dance and roll their hands to demonstrate to the CPP flag-bearer that they will vote for the party. Interestingly, shop owners, hairdressers, market women and traders who came out of their shops and stores to catch a glimpse of Dr Nduom also joined in the chorus.

Again, many of the traders who expressed their disillusionment with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) vouched to vote for the CPP in the December polls. This, they said, has become necessary because apparently these two parties did not seek welfare.

At the Mfantsepim Junction where the procession ended, Dr Nduom was mobbed by a large number of party supporters who had followed him from the Chapel Square.

Earlier, Dr Nduom was given an enthusiastic welcome by party members in Cape Coast and led by a coterie of brass band music to the Chapel Square, where he made a presentation of five hundred Ghana cedis, two bottles of schnapps, three crates of assorted drinks and one fat cow to the Omanhene of Oguaa, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II.

He also donated tubers of yam, cassava and plantain.

Addressing the Omanhene, his subjects and the people of Oguaa at the durbar grounds, Dr Nduom admonished them to coexist in peace and harmony. He also wished them long life and prosperity.

Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II bemoaned the fact that his people’s response to community work has been appalling. On that note, he advised them to change their habits and contribute their quota towards the development of the Oguaa town, especially when it comes to communal labour. The Omanhene of Oguaa through his chief linguist also thanked Dr Nduom and all the others who had made generous contribution towards the celebration of this year’s Fetu Afahye Festival.
