Former MP for Bawku Central Mahama Ayariga

President-elect John Evans Atta Mills has appointed Hon. Mahama Ayariga, MP for Bawku Central as presidential spokesperson.

Mr Ayariga, who has been spokesperson for Mills during the latter's campaign for the presidency, told Joy News he has been "humbled" by his appointment.

The president-elect has also appointed Mr James Bebako-Mensah, a former Cabinet Secretary in the second term of the NDC government under former President Jerry Rawlings, as secretary to the president.

According to a statement issued from the Kuku Hill office of Prof. Mills, the appointments of the two take immediate effect.

Mr Ayariga would no longer be returning to Parliament House as MP after he lost his seat in the December 7, 2008 General Elections. He has been Mills Spokesperson since the latter won the NDC's bid to lead the party as presidential candidate.

In a calm tone, Mr Ayariga, usually a firebrand, promised to serve the new government with dedication and selflessness.

“I’ll do my best to represent whatever His Excellency the President-elect represents,” he said.
