Bayern v Hoffenheim was always going to be a match that tickled the fancy, but before the season started hardly anyone could have predicted that it was going to be the hottest ticket in the country.

According to Bayern ticketing chief Oliver Meßthaler the club could have sold upwards of 150'000 tickets for German football's ultimate nod to David versus Goliath, since David has already proven to be a real giant killer in this case.

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, representing a village town with a population of just 3'500, currently occupy top spot in the Bundesliga with Bayern three points behind them in second place, meaning that the result of Friday’s game could very well have a huge bearing on who finishes as champions.

“Please don’t submit any more requests – it’s futile!“ Meßthaler said through Bayern's official website, adding that each one of the 69'000 seats in the Allianz Arena had been sold out since two weeks already.

“With Hoffenheim’s continued success, the demand has increased week after week. We’ve had to send a lot of people away disappointed.”

“It’s become the match which has electrified the entire nation," added FCB media director Markus Hörwick, who has already issued 300 press accreditations to reporters and photographers from as far away as Beijing.

“The whole of Germany will be watching – and half of Europe too."
