The Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Nii Nortey Dua has defended President Mills’ decision to set up a committee to advise government on what package to give the Gold winning Black Satellites, two weeks after conquering the world.
He however insists the President has “something” special in mind and will reveal it at the right time.
The presidency has come under intense criticism following his decision to form the Oko Nii Koi Dzane led committee which will propose the reward package for the Satellites.
MP for Atwima Mponuah Isaac Asiamah on the floor of parliament accused the government of been too slow in announcing the package for the Satellites.
Describing the committee as a “waste of time and resources” Hon Asiamah charged the government to “act and act expeditiously” in announcing the reward for the Satellites whose heroic efforts once again put Ghana on the world map.
But the Deputy Minister disagrees. He said the committee is extremely important because it will receive all donations on behalf of the Satellites.
Explaining its necessity, he said he has personally received calls from friends who wish to donate to the team but did not where to channel them to.
Regardless of the opinions of the Hon MP for Atwima Mponua, Nii Dua said the committee is in line with the President’s own way of doing things.
